Father’s Day in San Diego is a great reason to spend time with Dad and plan something that feels easy, thoughtful, and fun. I put together a list of Father’s Day ideas near Rancho Santa Fe or a short drive away, including camping, concerts, NASCAR events, county fair, live comedy, local breweries, and brunch. These options give you a few different ways to celebrate, based on the kind of day he would enjoy most.
1. NASCAR San Diego Weekend | Coronado
NASCAR San Diego Weekend brings a major race weekend to Naval Base Coronado and Naval Air Station North Island from June 19 through June 21, 2026. The weekend includes NASCAR Cup Series, Xfinity Series, and CRAFTSMAN Truck Series races on a street course at an active military base, making it one of the most unique Father’s Day weekend events happening in San Diego this year. For dads who love cars, racing, military history, or just a high energy day out, this is a much bigger experience than a standard activity. Tickets are already selling quickly, with Sunday currently sold out and Friday and Saturday tickets still available.
2. San Diego County Fair Craft Brew Celebration | Del Mar
For dads who enjoy craft beer, the San Diego County Fair Craft Brew Celebration offers a Father’s Day plan that still gives the family the full fair experience. Held on Sunday, June 21 at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, the event takes place inside the fair at Chevrolet Paddock Green and includes same day admission to the San Diego County Fair. Guests can enjoy tastings from award winning breweries, then spend the rest of the day walking the fair, grabbing food, visiting exhibits, or heading to the rides and games. General admission includes a 10 tab wristband for 5 ounce beer tastings, while VIP adds early access, food pairings, shaded seating, and live entertainment.
3. Bob Dylan at The Rady Shell | San Diego

For dads who appreciate live music, Bob Dylan will perform at The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park on Sunday, June 21, 2026 at 6:30 PM. The show also includes Lucinda Williams and The John Doe Folk Trio, bringing a full lineup to the San Diego waterfront. With an iconic artist, an outdoor venue, and a concert date that falls directly on Father’s Day, families can make a full evening of it with an early dinner downtown before heading to the show.
4. Shuler King at The Comedy Store | La Jolla
For a comedy night in La Jolla, Shuler King will perform at The Comedy Store La Jolla during Father’s Day weekend, with a Saturday June 20th show at 9:30 PM and a Sunday, June 21st show at 7:00 PM. The Comedy Store is a well known name in stand up, and this gives families a live show option than a general comedy outing. Grab dinner with the family in La Jolla before the show for an easy Father’s Day evening plan.
5. Camping, Glamping, and RVing | Near San Diego
For a Father’s Day idea that gets everyone outside, camping, glamping, or RVing can be a great way to spend the weekend together. San Diego has access to beautiful outdoor areas, along with plenty of nearby campgrounds and unique stays. Some of the best known camping areas near San Diego are east of the coast, including William Heise County Park in Julian, Cuyamaca Rancho State Park, Mount Laguna in the Cleveland National Forest, Dos Picos County Park in Ramona, Lake Morena County Park, and Agua Caliente County Park in the Anza-Borrego Desert. Families who want something closer to the beach can also look at San Elijo State Beach or South Carlsbad State Beach, but those coastal sites book quickly. Hike, camp out under the stars, gather by the evening fire while enjoying s’mores and laughs with the family. Check out Hipcamp for a comprehensive list of unique outdoor stays.
6. Brewery Visit | Throughout San Diego

San Diego is one of the best cities for a Father’s Day brewery visit. If Dad enjoys craft beer, you can spend the afternoon tasting IPAs, stouts, lagers, and more while keeping the day easy. For a North County outing, Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens in Escondido offers dining, craft beer, and a large beer garden, with live music scheduled on Sunday, June 21. Harland Brewing is another easy option with tasting rooms in 4S Ranch, Scripps Ranch, Bay Park, and South Park, while Pure Project has locations in Vista, Carlsbad, North Park, Miramar, and Balboa Park. For a waterfront setting, Eppig Brewing’s Point Loma Biergarten gives Dad craft beer with bay views. Add good food, great company, and a simple toast to Dad, and it becomes a fun way to spend quality time together on Father’s Day.

Father’s Day does not need to be complicated to feel special. A great meal, a fun activity, or a simple day outside can be a great way to spend time with Dad. No matter what you choose, the best part is making time to celebrate him.
