Del Mar is a coastal community in San Diego, 2.2 square miles with a population of around 4,200. Founded in 1885 and incorporated in 1959, is one of the most well known coastline in Southern California. The community is known for its beaches, its dining, the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club and its world famous horse races, and the San Diego County Fair which is held here each summer.

Nature & Beaches



Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve is the most well known outdoor destination in the area. The 2,000 acre park has 8 miles of trails along the rocky coastal cliffside and is home to the rare and endemic Torrey pine. Del Mar North Dog Beach and Del Mar Rivermouth Dog Beach both welcome dogs. Powerhouse Park has open grass lawns along the water and South Beach is a quieter option away from the main crowds. Los Penasquitos Canyon Preserve is nearby as well with about 4,000 acres and nearly 12 miles of trails.
 
 

Restaurants & Shopping



The dining in Del Mar covers a wide range. Local spots along the water include Poseidon, Jake's Del Mar, and Pacifica Del Mar. Addison is the first and only three star Michelin restaurant in San Diego County and the only Five Diamond and Five Star restaurant in Southern California. Viewpoint Brewing is the first brewery established in Del Mar.

Del Mar Village and Del Mar Plaza are the heart of Del Mar’s shopping scene, known for their mix of upscale boutiques, specialty retail, restaurants, and easy walkability. The Del Mar Farmers Market adds another layer to the area, bringing local vendors to the Civic Center every Saturday year round.
 
 

Schools 

Public elementary schools include Del Mar Hills Academy and Del Mar Heights School, both in the Del Mar Union School District. Earl Warren Middle School serves most of the Del Mar district for grades 7 and 8, and Torrey Pines High School serves the district for high school. Canyon Crest Academy and San Dieguito High Academy are also public options in the area. Niche currently gives all four high schools and Earl Warren Middle an A+ rating, with Torrey Pines ranked 20th among California public high schools, Canyon Crest ranked first in the San Diego area, San Dieguito High Academy ranked 12th, and Earl Warren ranked 5th among San Diego area public middle schools.
