Leila Restaurant North Park
Being a luxury real estate agent in Rancho Santa Fe and San Diego County, my passion is creating an elevated living experience for my clients. And while they trade in dining, rather than domicile, the spirit of work is similar for the team behind Leila—a new Middle-Eastern-themed restaurant attracting long lines and month-out reservations since it opened in North Park in 2024.

A Feast for the Senses
Created by CH Projects—the San Diego-based hospitality group behind other local favorites like Noble Experiment, Youngblood, and the new Lafayette Hotel—Leila enchants from the moment you step inside. The interior is beautifully crafted, with the goal of creating a serene and inviting atmosphere. And they nailed it!
According to Eater, the owner spent three weeks in Morocco while researching the design for the 4,800-square-foot, nearly 100-seat restaurant. He sourced all of the light fixtures from the souks of Marrakesh, bringing an authentic touch to the interior. The custom bar features terracotta pillars and tiles inspired by sacred sites encountered in his travels.
The space is filled with an eclectic mix of artwork from craftspeople of the region, further immersing you in the culture of the Middle East. The starlit ceiling, gorgeous bar, and even the bathrooms are a feast for the eyes. The soothing sounds of a waterfall and ambient lighting set the mood for a perfect evening.
The Most Interesting Cocktails in North Park?
Before diving into the menu, you won't be able to resist trying some of Leila's signature cocktails. The Madja, a light and refreshing blend of Montenegro, ginger, Moroccan mint tea, lemon, and sparkling wine, is described as a "Moroccan Spritz" that will transport you to "mint palm trees." For something a bit more tropical, the Foozool delivers with its fruity island vibes.
If you're feeling adventurous, try the Bedouin Brew, a concoction of aged rum, Pasubio, toasted coconut cream, cardamom, turmeric, orange blossom, and espresso that's been dubbed a "White Russian on a magic carpet ride." And for those who prefer their cocktails on the fancy side, the Biad, made with rye, cognac, honey, saffron, rose, Amaro Dilei, arak, and aromatic bitters, is billed as the "fancier, perhaps fanciest, Old Fashioned."
Leila also offers cocktails for sharing, like the Date Night (for two) and the Tangier Twilight (for four). The bartenders are attentive and friendly, even amidst the busy dinner crowd.
A Culinary Trip Through the Middle East
When it comes to the food, Leila does not disappoint. Reflecting the variety of restaurants found in the East County communities of El Cajon, the menu includes Persian and Lebanese dishes along with some Moroccan influences and amazing bread. (They’re not messing around! 🥖)
The Salatim Platter, a colorful array of spreads served with an assortment of breads, is a must-try and perfect for sharing. Hummus, muhammara, cucumber yogurt, green tahini, shallot yogurt, pickles, olives, and dukkah are all served with naan, roasted garlic fry bread, and pita for a taste of the Middle East. The falafel is a standout, with its crispy exterior and flavorful interior.
For the main course, the kabobs are a highlight. The Beef Koobideh, seasoned with black pepper and onion and served with turnip toum, is juicy and flavorful. The Joojeh Chicken, marinated boneless breast with saffron, coriander, and turmeric, is grilled to perfection and served with a refreshing cucumber yogurt sauce. And the Steak Kabob Shishlik, with onion, sumac, and tahini, is another winner.
If you're dining with a group, consider the Soltani Platter, which includes enough to feed a small army. And don't miss the Tah Dig (or “tahdig” - a crunchy Persian rice) served with fideos, potato, yogurt, and barberry that adds a delightful crunch to every bite.
Sweet Endings
To cap off the evening, indulge in some of Leila's creative desserts. The pistachio ice cream is a creamy delight, while the Knafeh Sundae, with shredded filo, sweetened cheese, and orange blossom syrup, is a unique and utterly satisfying treat.
