Paseo is located on Paseo Delicias in the heart of Rancho Santa Fe Village, inside the original 1924 schoolhouse building that many of us locals know as Rancho Santa Fe Bistro. In 2025, local resident Jennifer Fields took over the space and reintroduced it as Paseo. With a 24 year background in hospitality, including 10 years at the Bellagio in Las Vegas, she transformed the longtime Village staple into a restaurant, bakery, and café.
Shirley Slee Design and Built By Del Sur led a full renovation of the restaurant. Inside, the former bistro wine racks and cabinetry were removed from the space to allow additional seating. Two bars were built, shifting how the room flows. Dark green velvet drapery, brass finishes, and updated warm lighting were introduced throughout, along with Parisian café chairs. Newly installed herringbone wood flooring compliment the original brick and exposed wood beams. Velvet and leather upholstery adds just the right amount of texture without overwhelming the European design. The dining room connects directly to the patio, where new banquettes and refreshed landscaping by Rancho Santa Fe’s Plantology owner Roxy Najafian complete the redesign.

The menu reflects California coastal cuisine with fresh seafood, seasonal produce, hand cut steaks, and house made pastas. Lunch and dinner are offered, and the menu changes with the seasons. The wine program highlights Organic, Biodynamic, Sustainable Certified, and Certified Sustainable options. Dog friendly patio seating, a kids menu, and gluten free options are also available. We began with Reverdy Ducroix Sancerre and Dierberg Chardonnay.
For starters, we ordered the Paseo Chopped Salad with Iceberg and Romaine Lettuce, Italian Salami, Mozzarella Cheese, Chickpeas, with Tangy Parmesan Vinaigrette, inspired by the well known La Scala salad in Beverly Hills. In addition, we ordered the Baked Brie with Seedless Grapes, Local Honey, and Crostini.

We moved on to the Dover Sol with Lemon, White Wine and Capers with your choice of Rice or Pasta. Followed by the Spicy Penne and the Paseo Burger with Black Angus Sirloin, American Cheese, Lettuce, Tomato, Thousand Island and Fries. We ordered a range of dishes and every single one of them was delicious.

Service was attentive and consistent throughout the evening. For longtime locals, this space carries history, and Paseo brings a complete refresh of both space and menu, something the Village has been ready for. I hope to see you there!
