"America’s Finest City" is famous for its miles of white-sand beaches, idyllic weather, and world-class attractions.

The city of San Diego is the second largest in California and the eighth largest in the United States. It is home to approximately 1.3 million residents in the city and more than 3 million residents in the county. There are approximately 4,200 square miles within its borders. San Diego County encompasses 18 incorporated cities and numerous charming neighborhoods and communities, including downtown's Gaslamp Quarter, Little Italy, Coronado, La Jolla, Del Mar, Carlsbad, Rancho Santa Fe, Hillcrest, Point Loma, Old Town, and Chula Vista.

San Diego is renowned for its idyllic climate, 70 miles of pristine beaches, and a wide variety of attractions that appeal to all ages. The San Diego Zoo, San Diego Zoo Safari Park, SeaWorld San Diego, and LEGOLAND California are among the most popular attractions.

San Diego County

East County San Diego offers a variety of terrains, ranging from gentle foothills to miles-high mountains, the historic mining town of Julian, and the 600,000-acre Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, where nature-conscious visitors can explore hiking, camping, fishing, observing wildlife, and much more.

There is a largely agricultural community in San Diego's North County that produces a variety of flowers and fresh produce. Aside from growing and harvesting quality grapes, winemakers produce excellent wines for some of the region's most prestigious restaurants and resorts.

Along California's West coast, there are 70 miles of coastline that are popular for indoor and outdoor recreation, including surfing, boating, sailing, and swimming, as well as scientific research by the Scripps Institution of Oceanography.

In the South, there is a whole other country, Mexico, with its own culture in towns along the border and coastline, such as Tijuana, Rosarito, and Ensenada.

Art and Culture

There is a burgeoning arts and culture scene in San Diego and a thriving culinary scene. Over 6,400 restaurants in the region offer award-winning meals prepared by some of the region's hottest and newest culinary artists. One of the largest urban cultural parks in the United States, Balboa Park, is home to the world-famous San Diego Zoo. Additionally, it is home to more than 15 museums, numerous art galleries, beautiful gardens, and the Tony Award-winning Globe Theatre.

The county is also home to 92 golf courses as well as many other exciting activities and spectator sports, beachfront resorts, luxury spas, gaming, a vibrant downtown district, annual special events, unique holiday offerings, multicultural festivals and celebrations, colorful neighborhoods, and communities, a rich military history, and many other attractions.
