Ranch Clubhouse

Located within The Covenant of Rancho Santa Fe, the Ranch Clubhouse serves as a dining and social space for members of the Rancho Santa Fe Association. It is a part of the historic Rancho Santa Fe Golf Club, but Golf Club membership is not required to use the clubhouse. Access to the golf course and playing facilities is reserved for Golf Club members only.

History of the Rancho Santa Fe Golf Club

The Rancho Santa Fe Golf Club opened on June 5, 1929. Golf course architect Max Behr designed the original 6,700 yard, par 72 course around the property’s existing terrain. In 1937, Bing Crosby began hosting the annual pro am tournament known as the “Clambake.” The 36 hole event paired professional golfers with celebrities and business leaders and continued at Rancho Santa Fe through 1942. The course operated as a public facility for 25 years before access was limited to Rancho Santa Fe Association members in 1960. In 1978, ownership of property within The Covenant became a requirement for Golf Club membership which added to its exclusivity.

A major course renovation was completed in 2002, expanding the layout to 7,035 yards while maintaining its par 72 design. The clubhouse was later enlarged with additional dining areas, event rooms, offices, and a larger kitchen. The Ranch Clubhouse reopened in December 2007, followed by the Player’s Clubhouse in January 2008.

The Ranch Clubhouse

The Ranch Clubhouse is available to Rancho Santa Fe Association members for dining, drinks, social gatherings, and community events. Members may dine inside, gather at the bar, or sit outside on the patio overlooking the golf course. Guests are welcome when visiting with a member and must follow Club policies.

The Ranch Clubhouse restaurant is currently closed for renovations. Association members may continue using the Snack Bar until its own renovation phase begins.

Ranch Clubhouse Policies & Etiquette

The Ranch Clubhouse dress code is casual but specific. Members are responsible for making sure their family members and guests understand the requirements.

Denim. Denim is permitted as long as it is tasteful and does not have tears or exposed skin.

Men’s attire. Men must wear shirts with sleeves and remove hats, caps, and visors while seated in indoor dining areas.

Headwear. Hats, caps, and visors may be worn on the outdoor patios with the bill facing forward.

Shorts. Shorts must have at least a 5 inch inseam or an 18 inch outer seam.

Fitness and tennis attire. Appropriate fitness and tennis clothing, including warm up suits or cover ups, may be worn in the Grille, Bar, and Patio areas before 4:00 p.m. 

Shoes. Shoes must be worn at all times. Golf shoes are permitted if they have soft spikes.

Cell Phones & Electronic Devices

Cell phones, tablets, and electronic reading devices must remain on silent or vibrate throughout the Club. Members and guests may text, email, and browse online as long as their devices remain silent.

Audible phone calls are not permitted inside the Ranch Clubhouse. Calls may be made from the Santa Fe Patio and West Terrace.

Ranch Clubhouse Renovation

The Ranch Clubhouse restaurant is undergoing an estimated $9.4 million renovation. Plans include a new roof, an updated kitchen and equipment, renovated bathrooms, new interior finishes, upgraded plumbing and electrical systems, a new round bar, improvements to the Osuna Grille, and an expanded outdoor patio.

The project also includes updated lighting, audio and visual equipment, security systems, doors that open the dining spaces toward the golf course, new patio paving, planters, and a perimeter wall. The Association’s December 4, 2025 project schedule anticipated completion in August 2026. The Association currently confirms that the clubhouse remains closed but has not publicly posted a revised reopening date.
