The Covenant is home to a vast private trail network spanning over 60 miles, from the pristine waters of San Dieguito Reservoir in the northeast, to the canyons along El Camino Real in the southwest. As a resident of the Covenant of Rancho Santa Fe, these trails serve as your own miniature nature park to enjoy, offering the perfect space for a morning jog or afternoon stroll. Overseen by the Trail & Recreation Committee, these trails include both equestrian and pedestrian paths and are exclusively for use by Covenant residents (and your guests).
You’ll find terrain varying from densely forested paths to routes running alongside trickling creeks, not to mention more than one sublime ocean viewpoint! Motorized vehicles, such as scooters, as well as skateboards, bicycles, and other vehicles are not allowed on the trails, so it’s always a relaxing, calming experience to travel these paths. You don’t have to worry about a cyclist or rollerblader zipping around a corner behind you!
Most trails are wide enough to accommodate groups hiking together, and can also allow pairs to ride on horseback alongside one another. All trails are dog-friendly, too (though your furry friend must be kept on a leash at all times, and you cannot ride on horseback with a dog accompanying you). Be sure to observe proper golf course etiquette on sections of trail around the golf course, and after your hike, you can grab lunch or a snack and unwind at the Rancho Santa Fe Golf Club Snack Bar!
